Fun Friday Knitting
If you have ever observed a person knitting – particularly one
who knits quickly – you know that the knitting needles appear to be moving in a
way that isn’t humanly possible. The
needles seem to move at warp speed, dancing in and out of a complex
choreography.
This is the way the feet should appear during an intricate
petit allegro (small jump) combination.
The feet and legs are moving very fast, yet each step is clearly
visible, especially the beats. In other
words, it shouldn’t look muddled or fuzzy.
Of course, every jump should have fully pointed feet, which adds to the
knitting needle illusion. So think of
shiny knitting needles clicking away during the next petit allegro combination!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #15s:
“During a complex petite allegro and/or one involving beats, imagine
your feet working like knitting needles used by an expert knitter.”

Quote
of the Day:
“There's great value to
knitting or digging up your garden or chopping up vegetables for soup, because
you're taking some time away from turning the pages, answering your emails,
talking to people on the phone, and you're letting your brain process whatever
is stuck up in there.”
