Wild Wednesday Wide
Whenever a dancer is feeling a bit
uncertain or insecure in a particular combination of steps or piece of
choreography something interesting happens. The steps get smaller. That’s right. Suddenly the dancer is not moving through
space effectively, and instead is almost tiptoeing. Scary.
Remind yourself to take big, wide steps.
Stretch the legs and feet fully. This also serves to make the preparation steps
much more effective. The muscles are now fully elongated and more powerful. It
also helps relax the body. Tiny, tense movements are never productive.
Think wide this Wednesday.
