Super Saturday Stripe
Traveling turns are great fun, and they usually elicit
applause from the audience. The
difficulty is often in the traveling nature of these turns: how to avoid falling into the orchestra pit
or slamming into a wall, when whipping through a long series of piqués -
especially if a bit of dizziness creeps in.
Help is on the way!
Imagine a wide stripe painted on the floor, and have
the leading foot step directly on this stripe at the beginning of each
turn. This way, no sudden deviation can
happen that could result in taking a wrong turn. And it only takes a slight alteration to
significantly change the direction of the turns.
This wide stripe works well even if the dancer is a bit
dizzy, since the ability to place the foot firmly along a practiced pathway can
guide them safely to the end of the series of turns, or to a safe exit into the
wings.

Secret #7hh:
“Picture a wide stripe painted on the floor in the direction the
traveling turns must go.”
