Throwback Thursday Ceiling Dance
In the 1951 movie Royal Wedding, a memorable dance sequence shows Fred Astaire quite literally
dancing around the room and on the ceiling.
How was this feat of engineering
accomplished? According to http://www.bigfott.com/Astaire_Unwound.html:
“The
hotel room set was constructed inside a huge rotating steel cage, all the
furniture was bolted down, and the camera and cameraman were strapped down and
traveled around 360 degrees while Astaire danced away, always remaining upright
as the room rotated around him.” (See the Link of the Day below for more info.)
Other performers have done their own
rotating room effect, notably Lionel Richie in his Dancing on the Ceiling video.
