Fun Friday Click

Fun Friday Click

Dance is movement. This is obvious, right? But often dancers get so caught up in the details of the technique, they just blaze through the combination of steps as though moving was the only thing.

Dance is actually a combination of movements and “picture” steps. Picture steps always have internal energy, but to the audience it appears that the dancer stops momentarily, either in the air or on the ground in a beautiful pose. This can be breathtaking.

To help achieve this, imagine hearing a click at the peak of the movement (pose). It’s as if a great dance photographer just captured the fleeting moment on film. This will help prevent “slopping through” a set of steps and put your focus on those steps that should have a momentary hold (although the energy never stops).
