Fun Friday Face

Fun Friday Face

With all the emphasis on legs, feet, arms, extensions, etc., there is another, often neglected area: the face.

It is what most audience members look at, and is probably the most important part of any dancer’s technique. Facial expressions can make or break a performance.

Each situation requires a different expression, and within any combination or piece of choreography there are a variety of expressions. The best thing to remember is that expressions should always be natural. No forced, stiff smiles, or lifted eyebrows – or, gasp! – deer in the headlights look.

Don’t forget to pay attention to your face!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #22c:
“Consider your facial expressions.”

Quote of the Day:
“Be aware of the high notes, of the blissful faces and their soft messages, and listen for the silent message of a highly decorated gift.”
