Saturday Yawn

Saturday Yawn

Yawning can be a good thing, a necessary thing. But in a ballet class, yawns should never be obvious, and certainly should not be done right under the teacher’s nose, or worse, in his/her face. Scary.

Therefore, there is no overt (obvious) yawning in a dance class. If one must yawn, turning away from the teacher or otherwise camouflaging the yawn is the way to go.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Statute #82:
“There is no overt yawning during class.”
