Throwback Thursday and Svetlana Adyrkhaeva

Born on May 12, 1938, Svetlana Adyrkhaeva received her dance training at the Leningrad Ballet School(Vaganova Choreography School), graduating in 1955. Three years later she performed the principal role of Odette/Odile in Swan Lake to great acclaim.In 1960 she was invited to dance the same role at the Bolshoi Theater where she remained until the late 1970s.

She performed for many years dancing such roles as Aegina in Spartacus, and many others. Later in her career (1978-1981) she was member of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts from which she graduated in 1980 and became a teacher there. From 1995 to 2001 she was a teacher at the Dance Academy of the New Humanitarian University of Natalia Nesterova and then held the same position at the Bolshoi Theater.
