Fun Friday Dandy Doubles

Fun Friday Dandy Doubles

By now everyone is familiar with Ballet Statute #5:If it turns., it spots”. This is true for things that one might not automatically think of as a turn, like grand jeté en tournant. Although the en tournant part should be a big hint.

The difference is this: a grand jeté en tournant actually has two spots, one in the direction the dancer is moving and the other in the landing position. Not only that, but there is also a double lift: one lift occurs as the leading leg battements devant and the dancer jumps, and the bonus lift as the legs scissor and the dancer turns.

How great is that?! Dandy doubles!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret # 15ww:
“A grand jeté en tournant has a double spot and a double lift.”
