Sunday Journeys

Sunday Journeys
Dancers are an interesting breed.  We spent our lives pursuing a perfection that is unattainable.  Crazy.  But we love the art form, and hopefully, we also love the journey.
As long as we are involved in this “perfection pursuit”, we should absolutely embrace the journey.   Because the perfection we seek, when it is achieved at all, in only achieved in pieces.  Once we master one area, it morphs into another goal, another level of perfection to strive for.  At least dancers are never bored!
I believe this is true in other areas of life, too.  Philosophers have long said that we need to remember to “smell the roses”, and enjoy the journey.  But particularly for artists, it is critical to love the process – the journey.
The process for dancers includes daily class, daily rehearsals, coaching sessions, and ultimately, performances.  But the elusive “Perfection Beast” will always dance ahead of us, just out of reach.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Motivational Secret #13
“Dancers must remember to love the journey on their quest for perfection.”

Quote of the Day:

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.”
