Monday Musings:  Up and Down
An important ballet law involves correct postural energy.  Yes, energy and posture again!  Related to a previous blog about there being no squashing in ballet, Statute #10 states that if the knees bend, the spine must lengthen.
This is also related to an even earlier blog about the peanut butter and jelly sandwich between each vertebrae, and the dancer must lift so no filling squishes out. 
Unfortunately, during a plié, the tendency is to let everything go down with the ship.  Instead, there needs to be a constant energy in the spine allowing it to extend upward, any time the body is going downward – i.e. the knees bend.
Statute #10 is important and if it is violated the Ballet Police will arrive.  On their pink motorcycles.
