Wacky Wednesday Calligraphy D
A rond
de jambe par terre, (or rond de jambe on the ground as opposed to in the
air), is a fun step. When executed correctly a giant letter D is “drawn” on the
floor.
But it gets better. It draws a calligraphy letter D because the first
straight stroke of the D is wide - since the whole foot moves through first
position – and the half circle part is done with the toes making that part narrow.
Just like a letter D drawn by a calligrapher.
You can try this yourself by doing rond
de jambes on the beach. You’ll see the giant calligraphy D beautifully rendered
in sand.

Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret #11r:
“A rond de jambe inscribes a calligraphy letter D on
the floor.”

Quote of the Day:
“Just as
writing can become calligraphy when it’s creatively, skillfully, and
consciously performed, so can all other activities become art. In this case, we
are reflecting upon life itself as an artistic statement—the art of living.”
