Terminology Tuesday Remontant
Petit
jeté en remontant [puh-TEE zhuh-TAY ahn ruh-mawn-TAHN] is a term of the French school of training. It means
a small jeté that moves upstage. According to Gail Grant’s book on ballet
terminology, it is another term for jeté dessous
(which means jeté over).
According to https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/french-english/remontant,
the word remontant is a masculine noun
that means a “tonic” or “pick-me-up”. It also means “a person or thing that
boosts”, according to https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/french-english/remontant.
No wonder ballet can be so confusing!
