Wild Wednesday Top
The image of a spinning top is a common one
in ballet. Visualizing the rapidly spinning toy balancing on a single axis is a
good one. Here’s another variation:
Imagine not only the top itself, but the string that starts the toy
spinning. This string is wrapped around your waist and is “pulled” to start the
turn. This helps keep the preparation tight and efficient and prevents “warped”
or too wide turns and/or preparations.
It’s fun. Try it!
From the Big
Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret #14ooo:
“Imagine you are a spinning top and around your waist
is the pull string.”

Quote of the Day:
“Toys can
be anything; children can play all morning with a stone and a plastic bucket.
It is about how imaginative conductive and how many applicative possibilities
toys offer.”
