Fun Friday Difficult
Why is ballet so hard? This is a common question/lament from dancers. The answer,
unlike ballet itself, is simple. It’s the level of detail required for even the
most basic thing.
Take the picture above. All of the
things needed to stand correctly in first position are listed. And that’s just
a position – not a movement or set of
movements. Whew!
Do the math. For every step and position
that’s added, the level of detail increases. No wonder dance is both
frustrating and compelling. It does feel wonderful beyond words when something
you do works well!
My point is, take heart! Dance is a
constant quest for a perfection we will never reach – but that’s what keeps us
coming back. It feels so amazing when we get close!
