Mad Monday Battement Devant

Mad Monday Battement Devant

Often in a grand jeté en tournant, students never hit a good devant position with their working leg and instead move too quickly to change direction. This can also cause “butterflying” the legs instead of each leg moving in scissor-like fashion past each other in the air.

Practice doing a jump that only goes to battement devant. This can be preceded by a chassé or a glissade as long as the focus is on feeling the strong brush of the battement to the devant position.

After this has been achieved, then move on to the grand jeté en tournant making sure to feel the same strong devant position before changing direction in the air.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #15rrr:
“Practice jumping in a battement devant to improve grand jeté en tournant.”
