Wacky Wednesday Knee Avoidance

Wacky Wednesday Knee Avoidance

A common problem for beginners and even advanced dancers is a sickled foot in passé. Gasp!  It is as though the toes have brains and want to “avoid” the knee. In doing so, the toes curl forward, causing an unattractive, (and just plain wrong), sickled foot. Scary.

To prevent this, concentrate on rotating the working leg even before the foot reaches passé. Then continue the concentration for the duration of the position.

Once again, rotation is the key!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #:
“To prevent knee avoidance, concentrate on rotating the working leg in passé.”

Quote of the Day:
“Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or society's kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. stay eager.”
