Marvelous Monday Palm Prompters
When the arms are overhead in fifth en haut, there is a tendency for the palms to face the audience (gasp!) instead of facing the dancer. Not good. This also causes the elbows to droop forward (and we all know there is no drooping in ballet). Overall, not a good situation.
To prevent this, imagine that the palm of each hand contains a small, flat screen teleprompter. It should only be visible to the dancer, and it contains hints on execution and choreography. Kind of like the old human prompters that stood below and behind the downstage footlights giving cues to the actors on stage.
At no time in fifth en haut should the audience be able to see the dancer’s palm prompters.
