Throwback Thursday and Fanny Bias
Born in Paris on June 3, 1789, Fanny Bias trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School. In 1807 she joined the company. She is best remembered today because a lithograph by Waldeck shows her dancing on pointe. The year was 1821.
Fanny was dancing in London at that time and John Ebers, (manager of the Kings Theater), described her "beautiful little half steps which more than any other corresponded to the epithet twinkling." Hmmm. Sounds like bourrées, don’t you think?
Sadly, she was forced to retire (due to health problems),and she died young, at age 36. What those health problems might have been I haven’t yet uncovered. According to the site www.findagrave.com, Fanny was cremated and the location of her ashes is unknown.
