Saturday Head Movement Statute
Today’s Statute
is similar to Ballet Statute #1: If the arms are moving the head is moving.
It is expressed differently because of a common problem.
Since dancers learn quickly that they should “look at the hands”,
or “follow the arms”, they do just that – literally. They never take their eyes
off their hands, even when their hands are overhead. This doesn’t work.

it is not true that the eyes always
follow the hands. Only the head (almost)
always follows the movement of the arms.If a dancer is stares straight up at their hands, the
audience is now looking at the underside of their chin, and this is not a very
attractive line, or a very natural one.
So follow the movement of the arms with the head (almost) all
the time, and the eyes some of the time.
