Saturday Statue Memory Trick

Saturday Statue Memory Trick

Memorizing lots of steps quickly is a challenge all dancers face. Being a “quick study” is highly desired by companies and choreographers.

A little trick for memorizing a series of steps is to “sing” the steps to the tune of the music. A simple example would be the opening of Don Q  Grand Pas de Deux. The steps are ususally: tombé, pas de bourrée, glissade, pas de chat, bourrée to fourth and pirouette. Try putting those steps to the music and you’ll see how well this works.

Of course, some series of steps work better than others, but usually it isn’t difficult to make the steps into lyrics.

Kind of gives a new meaning to being a lyrical dancer, doesn’t it?
