Fun Friday Finger Turns

Fun Friday Finger Turns

Is there anything more fun than finger turns? It’s often one of the first skills two dancers learn in a partnering class. It’s especially fun for the female since she can turn almost indefinitely with only a little help from her partner.

One surprising secret is that the male dancer’s hand (the one that circles the female’s finger) is placed closer to being over her ear instead of the exact top of her head. This keeps everything aligned best for successful turns.

Of course, all other turning rules apply, especially that the female dancer must maintain a good retiré position and not break her solid alignment. If she does, her partner will have a difficult, if not impossible job of “saving” her and making everything look good. This is another basic rule for partnering: the female dancer must hold her position.

Ballet Secret #27a
One secret to successful finger turns: the male dancer’s hand is over the female’s ear – not the exact top of her head.

Link of the Day:

Quote of the Day (Replace the word marriage to: A pas de deux):

“Marriage is like a well-built porch. If one of the two posts leans too much, the porch collapses. So each must be strong enough to stand on its own.”
