Super Saturday Trees

I have blogged several times about energy and how it should always radiate out in all directions. Today I’m going to present an image that is often used in yoga, but applies to dance as well. There are many concepts in yoga that can help dancers (see today’s link).

Dancers must maintain a good, constant relationship with gravity. It is your best friend – one that grounds (no pun intended) you and keeps the body stable. To create a good, solid bond with gravity, imagine tree roots growing from the bottoms of your feet into the ground. These are good, deep roots that expand down and out in all directions.

Think about trees with deep roots and how they are able to withstand strong winds – even hurricanes. Trees with shallow roots do not fare as well, and they often blow over.

So imagine yourself as a strong tree with deep roots. And these roots keep on growing, downward and outward.
