Mad Monday Tube

Mad Monday Tube

One of the more difficult aspects of a pirouette is maintaining the nice, tight vertical alignment that is so crucial from the time the foot reaches passé (retiré)until the end of the turn – which incidentally, is also in passé (retiré).

There are many ways to think about this, but one that works very dependably is Ballet Secret # 14g:  Imagine turned while inside an empty paper towel tube.  This tube is large enough to accommodate the arms in fifth en avant, the passé leg, and perhaps a tutu, but that’s it.  It is also tall enough to allow for a nice lift in the body.

One could also imagine a toilet paper tube, but that seems not quite so nice, and it is certainly not quite tall enough.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #14g:
“During a pirouette, imagine turning while inside an empty paper towel tube.”

Quote of the Day:

“Life is like a camera…
Focus on what’s important,
Capture the good times,
Develop from the negatives,
And if things don’t work out,
Take another shot.”
