You Are Here

You Are Here
How often have you found yourself looking at a map – at a park, or a mall – and on the map is a little red dot or an X that says “you are here”?
It occurred to me that there is a great philosophical lesson in that small proclamation - in that small, red X.  You are here.  It is another way of saying “embrace this moment”, “live for today”, etc.  You are here.
It is all too easy to focus exclusively on the future, or to dwell obsessively on the past, when what really matters the here and now.  Take a few extra moments today and imagine that red X.  Focus only on the immediate present.   See the details, feel your surroundings, take everything in.  You may reap some surprising benefits.
You are here.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Motivational Secret #7
“You are here.  Be aware, and embrace it.”
