Superstitious Saturday Penny
Pennies are often a major player in superstitions.
For example, if you receive a sharp object, like a knife or pair of scissors as
a gift, you must reciprocate by giving a penny back – or bad luck will follow.
Then there’s the notion that if you see
a penny lying on the ground, picking it up will bring good luck. But then, some
say that you only pick it up if heads are showing, otherwise turn it over and
leave it for someone else to find.
Simply carrying a penny is good luck,
and throwing one overboard before an ocean voyage insures a good trip. Keeping
a jar of pennies in the kitchen is good luck.
