Superstitious Saturday Makeup
Here are some fun things to consider the
next time you sit in front of your makeup mirror.
I ran across this superstition from the
Washington Post: “Ancient Egyptians believed that makeup prevented the evil one
from entering your eyes.” So that’s why they wore lots of makeup… or maybe this
is why:
According
to http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20160204-how-ancient-egypt-shaped-our-idea-of-beauty
there is this about the Egyptians’ eye shadow: “Recent scientific research suggests that the toxic, lead-based mineral
that formed its base would have had anti-bacterial properties when mixed with
moisture from the eyes.” Bacteria certainly might classify as “evil ones”. The
same source say their makeup may have helped reduce the glare of the sun.
Both
men and women wore makeup in ancient Egypt, and apparently for more than just superstitious
reasons.
