Saturday Count

Saturday Count

Yet another theatrical superstition is this: It is bad luck to count the audience. The reason seems obvious, since if there are so few people in the house that they can actually be counted, it is likely a small number. And performing for a small number of people might make the performer feel depressed and give a lackluster performance.

Of course, audience counts can be made via the number of tickets sold, so it is probably best that the performers aren’t made aware of this number for the reason stated above.

All in all, it is best not to count the audience.
