Wild Wednesday Supporting

At first glance, this may sound counterintuitive: It is the supporting leg that moves the body. How can that be? Aren’t you standing with all your weight on it? Isn’t that like nailing your foot to the floor?

It works like this: it is precisely because you are standing on it that you have the downward energy of your body weight that helps you push off into another step – glissade for example. You never pull with your working leg because it will take you off center. Instead – using glissade again – you extend energy through the working leg (a subtle but important difference from pulling) while pushing (propelling) yourself with your supporting leg.

Give some thought to this and it will become clear.
