Mad Monday Push the Air

Mad Monday Push the Air

A beautiful port de bras is created through resistance. That is, the arms never move as though there is nothing stopping them. Instead, they move as if the air is thick and needs to be gently pushed away.

This applies to the legs as well, but it is easier to feel with the arms, especially for beginners. Sometimes it helps to imagine the air as something else: water, pudding, hot fudge – whatever helps the feeling of resistance.

Always imagine pushing the air away during any port de bras.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #16z:
“Remember to push the air in port de bras.”
