Fun Friday Plié End

Fun Friday Plié End

Here is another way to think about pliés – especially pliés that serve as a preparation for pirouettes. Think of this: Go to the end of the plié.

That’s right. Be sure to go all the way down before you come up. It sounds simple but so often plié preparations are tense and short – we used to call them “creaky pliés”. You are not trying to save part of the plié for later. Use it all!

In previous blogs I’ve talked about making your pliés juicy and that a plié is a movement not a position. These are all ways to make pliés work effectively.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #2gg:
“Go to the end of the plié.”

Quote of the Day:
“You have to learn to intake, to imbibe, to nourish yourself and not be afraid of fullness. The fullness is like a tidal wave which then carries you, sweeps you into experience and into writing.”
