Wacky Wednesday Same Shape
One unusual thing about balletic arm
positions is this: with only a few exceptions, the elongated shape of the arms is the same shape no matter what position the arms are in. That is, the
almost-but-not-quite-straight shape in fifth en haut (high fifth) is the same
extended curve in second position, fifth en avant or fifth en bas, etc.
It seems that the arms should be
shortened in some positions like fifth en avant, but that isn’t the case (except
during certain turns like multiple pirouettes or when a female dancer is being
partnered).
Most of the time the shape is the same.

Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #6ooo:
“The shape of the arms is the same no matter where
they are.”
