Wacky Wednesday Cut-out
Yesterday I talked about the term en quarré. Today I’m staying with the square
theme and discussing a handy prop for dance class.
A cardboard cut-out, about 9 – 10 inches
square, can be used to demonstrate the correct alignment of the pelvis. Place
it in front of your lower abdomen and show how it looks when it is square and
level, and then tilt it. The picture of being out-of-balance is immediately
apparent.
This square can also be used to show how
the weight must shift when the dancer is on one leg. The square should be
centered on top of the supporting foot, not hovering in space, half over the
foot and half off.
There are many things you can do with a
simple cardboard cut-out.
