Mad Monday Hug an Egg

Mad Monday Hug an Egg

Here we go again with yet another egg image.

When the arms are in first (or fifth en avant) position, it is important to maintain their shape without tension. That shape is a circular one, like hugging a giant (raw) egg around its middle.

An egg is  a good image because although the arms are creating a strong, physical shape (no drooping elbows, etc.), it shouldn’t be so strong that that the egg is crushed and the shape is ruined.

Maybe we should call the position fifth egg avant…

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #6jjj:
“For first position of the arms, imagine hugging an egg.”
