Fun Friday Tissue Pack

Fun Friday Tissue Pack

The problem students have with traveling bourrées is this: In an effort to travel and gain distance, the feet lose their lovely fifth position and come apart, making the whole process look rather clunky. Scary stuff.

A fun prop that most people have is a small, pocket-size package of tissues. Place this pack between the mid-thighs and bourrée without dropping it. This is a fun game and one that illustrates very quickly when the feet move too far apart. I’ve heard of some teachers using a thinner object, like a credit card, but I like the tissues because they are wider, softer and easier to deal with – especially when dropped.

Think of it as a tissue power-pack.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #20x:
“Use a pocket package of tissues for traveling bourrées.”

Quote of the Day:
“For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.”
