Marvelous Monday Parallel
One balletic secret involves the
geometry of beautiful positioning, or what dancers call “line”. And beautiful
line most definitely involves geometry.
You can take any dance photograph and with a
ruler trace lines following the arms and
legs and see how, in any balletic position, there are actually lots of lovely
angles and lines running parallel – either to an arm or a leg, or parallel to
the floor. You’ll also find lovely perpendicular lines, like the one created by a
six o’clock penchée. And of course, there are curves, too.
The beginning of today’s video Link of the Day beautifully illustrates
the parallel lines created in an arabesque.
Be aware of these geometric patterns and
your balletic line will improve immediately.
