Fun Friday Mirror Down
Sometimes it takes just a small
improvement to fully transform a step or series of steps. This is especially
true in jumps.
Often dancers focus on their feet in the
mirror during jump combinations. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it often
comes with this baggage: the constant eye focus on the feet causes the head to
drop down and this ruins the correct alignment. Scary.
When using the mirror students must be constantly
aware of the changes in level (height) their body goes through – particularly during
jumps. The eye focus must change too and keep pace with the body’s ever-changing
levels. As the body jumps the eye focus
changes and becomes higher. Upon landing in pliƩ, the eye focus readjusts to a
more normal level.
With practice this change of focus will
become a natural thing.
