Wacky Wednesday Backwards
Often when dancers are having difficulty
with a step, the answer lies not with the step itself. Instead, the problem is
frequently the step or steps that come before it.
So go backwards. Make sure the preceding
step (often a pliƩ) is as perfectly executed as possible. It should be rich and
full and never looked upon as a secondary thing. Unfortunately, this is often
the case.
If the preceding step is a glissade or
other traveling step, be sure it isn’t “short”. The legs and feet should reach
out fully, allowing the step to efficiently aid in producing the one(s) that follow.
Think backwards!
