Technical Tuesday Elbow

Technical Tuesday Elbow

Unlike the hip, which is a ball-and-socket joint that allows turn out, the elbow is a hinge joint. Like the name implies, it operates like the hinge on a door, allowing only flexion and extension – not rotation.

Here is a description of the elbow joint from
“The elbow joint occurs at the junction the humerus or upper arm bone, the ulna which is the larger of the two forearm bones and the radius bone. ... The radius is the smaller of the two forearm bones and sits on the outside of the joint.”

Today’s Link of the Day provides a more complete look at this fascinating joint.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Anatomical Secret #27kkk:
“The elbow is a hinge joint.”

Quote of the Day:
“Don't be discouraged when your life boils hot. With just a little more toil, you'll reap from the soil. More oil to your elbows. Stay awake and make it happen!”
