Mad Monday Make-Up

Mad Monday Make-Up

One of the rules of the stage is that performers must remove their stage make-up before leaving the theater. If this is impossible due to time constraints (like running out between matinee and evening shows), then a pair of large sunglasses should be worn.

Why? Well, if one goes into the street with the large, exaggerated features of stage make-up it tends to draw attention – to say the least. It proclaims, “Look at me, I’m an important performer!”  Not good.

You want attention when you are onstage – not on the street.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #29b:
“Always remove stage make-up before leaving the theater.”
