Wacky Wednesday 6 O’clock

Wacky Wednesday 6 O’clock

Every dancer wants to achieve a perfect “6 o’clock penchée”. As the name implies, this position creates a perpendicular line from the arabesque (working) leg down through the supporting leg.

The problem many dancers have goes back to that two-way energy idea again. All their energy is focused on the leg that’s up and all that “up” energy unbalances everything if there isn’t an equal energy being sent down through the floor.

Often creating this downward energy is all that is needed for a dancer to achieve the perfect penchée.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #21i:
A 6 o’clock penchée requires as much energy in the standing leg as in the working leg.”
