Wacky Wednesday Move or Stay

Wacky Wednesday Move or Stay

In every exercise, dancers have a choice. They can move or stay. I do not mean literal across- the-floor kind of movement, but the more cerebral kind. Moving forward – progressing.

Any dance class offers the opportunity to maintain one’s technique, simply by “doing the class”. But to progress, to further improve technique, requires a different kind of focus and a more concerted effort.

I’ve talked about it before. Simply doing what you’ve always done maintains technique – but that’s it. To really improve, extra effort is required: stretch a little further, balance a little longer, etc. Without this, a dancer will never move beyond the technique they have right now. Scary.

So every day, remember you have a choice: to move forward, or stay put.
