Technical Tuesday Adductor Hallucis

Technical Tuesday Adductor Hallucis

One of the hallux muscles, the adductor hallucis is on the bottom of the foot and it divides into two parts. The first one runs across the bottom of the foot beneath the four small toes. The other side attaches to a bone of the big toe and then connects to a bone in front of the heel.

The hallux muscle (hallucis is the plural) refers to muscle(s) pertaining to the big toe. The adductor halluci moves the big toe in toward the other toes, and assists in flexing and contracting the big toe. It also helps reinforce the arch.

Injuries to this muscle are usually caused by wearing shoes that are too small, or the result of a high impact. Bunions can also be a problem, as can heel pain.
