Wonderful Wednesday Fountains

Wonderful Wednesday Fountains

Yesterday I talked about the delicate cervical vertebrae in the upper spine and neck and how there should never be an abrupt right angle break in this line during any kind of backbend.

A good image for this a fountain of water. This could be a regular water fountain, like those in school - or an elaborate one in front of an elegant hotel. Picture how the water forms a lovely arch as it flows upward, then downward.

That’s the correct shape that should be made during a cambré back – that of an elegant, flowing arc of water spilling into a fountain.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Ballet Secret #
“The bend in the upper body in a cambré back should be like the arch of water formed in a fountain.”

“Built universal fountains for others; let people benefit from those fountains long after you are gone!”
