Wacky Wednesday Umbrella
Assemblés require that the legs assemble, and assemble in the air, as most dance students know.
But it is difficult. Remember Ballet
Secret #15d: “In an assemblé, to make sure the legs assemble in the air, imagine
catching a fly between the ankles.” This is one image that helps get those
legs to assemble.
Here is another one, and this one not only helps with the
critical assembling, but also helps with the aerodynamics of a larger assemblé.
As the jump begins, imagine an umbrella closing. That’s
right, an umbrella. Imagine how a closing umbrella catches air inside as it
closes, enough so it wants to lift upwards. Voilä! A lift and a closing all in
one- the perfect image for assemblés.
