Fun Friday Worry
There is a peculiar moment that happens – with some
regularity – at the bottom of a plié, especially if this plié is the impetus
for a turn. This moment involves a
momentary (or longer) pause. Scary.
A plié, as we all know, is a movement not a position,
and any pause at all stops the movement and creates a position. Not good. I
call this the “worry moment”. It is where the dancer’s fears of failure come to
rest. This does not help create a beautiful turn, or anything else for that
matter.
The solution is simple: don’t stop, pause or (gasp!) sit at the bottom of a plié. This gives
those pesky worries a chance to surface and wreak havoc.
