Saturday Pop Tart Statute

Saturday Pop Tart Statute

You will remember Ballet Statute #4a: “A tendu never leaves the floor.  Otherwise it is not a tendu.” When this happens, and the foot is no longer in contact with the floor, the foot tends to “pop” upward, usually at the end (outward) position of the tendu. In other words, the movement is correct until the last, outward moment, when the popping occurs.

To keep the foot in constant contact with the floor is the goal of a tendu, and to do this the under-circle sensation I’ve blogged about before must be used. It also helps to think of ironing the floor with the bottom of the tendu foot.

Avoid pop-tart tendus!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Ballet Statute #61:
“There are no “Pop-Tart tendues.”
