Wacky Wednesday Knee Spotlights

Wacky Wednesday Knee Spotlights

I’ve blogged about spotlights and lasers several times before. But today let’s put a spotlight on each knee.

These spotlights are always turned on and must  shine in opposite directions when the dancer is in any turned out position. One shines to the right, and the other shines to the left. If one of them is illuminating the room in front of the performer, something is wrong.

If your turnout isn’t yet perfect, it is permissible for the spotlights to shine slightly in front of the side seam of the leotard or tee shirt, but at no time should both lights shine in the same direction. For a ballet dancer, that would be scary.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #3p:
“Imagine a spotlight on each knee. They shine in opposite directions.”
