Wacky Wednesday Hand Modeling

Wacky Wednesday Hand Modeling

The hands in ballet can be difficult to manage. There is a tendency to let the hands be an afterthought, and that is if they are thought about at all. I have blogged about the shape of the hands being similar to cradling a baby bird, and that there is always energy flowing out through the tips of the fingers.

Here’s another idea. Imagine doing hand modeling. That’s right. A photographer is going to photograph your hands, and only your hands, for an advertisement for hand cream or something similar. Think about the ads you’ve seen in magazines and online that show only a pair of lovely hands. Usually the hands are photographed with the fingers gracefully extended, without tension, producing a beautiful line. Sounds a lot like ballet, doesn’t it?

So imagine doing hand modeling during your next dance class.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #6y:
To correctly shape the hands and fingers, imagine doing hand modeling for a photo shoot.
