Fun Friday Stars and Black Holes

Ah, those pesky abdominal muscles. They seem to have a mind of their own – a lazy one. For such a critical area, this laziness is a huge problem. The support of strong abdominal muscles helps everything in a dancer’s posture, but particularly the spine and back. And without a strong torso, everything else is going to fall apart.

There are many ways to think about “holding” or “engaging” the abdominal muscles, but today I offer another one: Imagine a star over your abdominal muscles, and then imagine this star collapsing into a black hole. For those who are not interested in astronomy, a black hole occurs when a star collapses and creates an area so massive that nothing can escape its gravitational pull.

This new image for using your abdominal muscles gives “suck your stomach in” a whole new level of meaning.
